Why Chinese companies Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus in India are dominating?

From last three to four years, the Chinese smartphone companies Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Honor, OnePlus etc are ruling the Indian smartphone market. In terms of sales, Xiaomi has also challenged the Korean company Samsung. In July 2018, Xiaomi outperformed Samsung in terms of sales. Xiaomi has become the best-selling smartphone brand in the Indian market. Indian smartphone brands like Micromax have gone invisible due to the Chinese brand’s dominance.

Four years ago, the Gurgaon office of Micromax looked like Google’s office. But the same office today has only a floor. According to a recent report by Counterpoint Research firm Micromax has laid the foundations of the smartphone market in India in 2014. At this time, Micromax also surpassed Korean smartphone company Samsung. Indian smartphone brands such as Micromax, Lava and Intex had 54 percent market share. At present, the share of these Indian brands has dropped to less than 10 percent.

A few years ago, the Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi entered into the Indian market with the launch of Mi 3 in partnership with Flipkart, India’s leading online retailer. The reason behind this is, Xiaomi started to sell the smartphones with good features in the Indian market at low prices. Xiaomi currently holds 29.7 percent stake in the Indian smartphone market. In the last few years, Xiaomi started assembling smartphones in India. After that, the availability of smartphones for Xiaomi started to grow in the Indian market.

Along with the growing dominance of  Xiaomi, other Chinese smartphone companies have also begun to launch their smartphones in the Indian market. Vivo, Oppo, Honor, OnePlus, etc., also sells the smartphones with good specifications at good prices. These Chinese companies have left no stone unturned in the Indian market from marketing to promotion. In order to make room for the heart of Indian users, Vivo and Oppo took sponsorship of many sporting events, as well as sponsorship of many TV programs for advertising. According to IDC, at this time, 4 of the top 5 Chinese companies are dominated.
